A New Review of DARING in The Toronto Star!

This weekend, I discovered a lovely new review of my memoir, Daring: My Passages, in one of Canada’s foremost newspapers—The Toronto Star. Here’s an excerpt:

“While best known for her Passages franchise, her autobiography fleshes her out as so much more than a predictor of social trends and issues. She’s written a total of 17 books including biographies of Hillary Clinton, Margaret Thatcher and Mikhail Gorbachev as well as hundreds of magazine articles.

Sheehy was one of those rare women who jumped into journalism in the 60s and managed, with a combination of hard work, great contacts and a lot of chutzpah, to make it as a solid journalist. . .

Sheehy covered everything from Irish protestors in Northern Ireland (a child was shot right beside her leaving her with post traumatic stress disorder), to the streetwalkers of New York. She was there when Ms. Magazine was created, rubbed shoulders with Gloria Steinem and Tom Wolfe, followed Hillary Clinton around the country, interviewed Margaret Thatcher’s Hindu practitioner, sat down with Anwar Sadat — the list goes on. I weep with envy just thinking of the wonderful opportunities she had and how smartly she seized every one of them. . .

In short, Gail Sheehy has had a life most journalists can only dream of and her autobiography gives us a chance to live vicariously.”
