Movers and Shakers: Gloria Steinem
Harpers Bazaar
October 15, 2014
“Daring?” Gloria protested. “I was scared shitless all the years I worked on Ms.” That was the liberal feminist magazine Gloria started in 1971, which helped change the consciousness of a generation.
“Scared? But why?” I pressed. “You had an army of followers and supporters.”
“What if the magazine failed?” Gloria said. “It would have damaged the movement, and it would have been my fault.”
My story about Gloria Steinem is in the November issue of Harper’s Bazaar, an issue devoted to the theme of DARING. It’s full of surprising revelations about Gloria’s chaotic girlhood, her late transformation into a feminist, her late middle-age marriage, and her continued commitment to igniting new waves of feminism around the globe.
